of the Sponsored Charities that the Toronto Paramedic Association
supports with financial backing and Membership attendance
at fundraisers sponsored by the charities.
As a Member, part of your dues contributions,
go towards supporting these events, and allows the Toronto
Paramedic Association to continue its benevolent support of
these close to home charities.
The Board of Directors encourages all Members
to become involved in these events, as together the TPA and
the Sponsored Charities, raise funds and provide support and
education to the benefactors of these charitable contributions.
The Tema Conter
Memorial Trust
www.temaconter.com
The mandate of the Tema Conter Memorial
Trust is to assist emergency services personnel to better
understand and to cope with the physical, psychological and
emotional stressors associated with acute trauma and its powerful
aftermath.
The Tema Conter Memorial Trust was created to
honour the memory of Tema Conter who, at the age of 25, was
brutally murdered in Toronto, Ontario. Mr. Vince Savoia, one
of the attending paramedics, was deeply affected and suffered
critical incident stress directly related to this terrible
episode in his paramedic life.
Mr. Savoia, with the blessing of the Conter family,
established the charity to improve the understanding of Critical
Incident Stress and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. This mandate
is accomplished through public education and the granting
of scholarship, media and public service awards.
Mission Statement of the Tema Conter Memorial
Trust
Being exposed to a traumatic event has clearly shown to have
significant and long term consequences that affect an individual's
cognitive, emotional and physical health.
Emergency service providers face these traumatic events on
a regular basis.
The Toronto Paramedic Association has sponsored this event
for the past two years, and will continue with its sponsorship
for years to come. Membership attendance is encouraged, and
is sponsored on behalf of the Association. For more information
on the Tema Conter Memorial trust, please visit their website.
Meagan’s
Walk

Brainchild is
a group of parents, family, and friends who have shared the
common experience of caring for a child with a brain tumor.
We are a volunteer organization providing support, education,
and research funding.
Little Meagan Bebenek was 4 years old when she was diagnosed
with brainstem glioma, a cancerous brain tumour. Two weeks
after her fifth birthday she passed away. The community where
she lived has rallied to support her family in their mission
to raise hope, awareness and research funding for pediatric
brain tumours through a first of its kind event – Meagan’s
Walk, Creating a Circle of Hope.
The 5km walk, starting from Ontario Place, ends with a circle
of hands around the Hospital for Sick Children – sharing
one big hug with all the children and the families suffering
within, a tribute to little Meagan and the legacy of hope
she has created.
The Toronto Paramedic Association has been a proud sponsor
and participant of this event since its inception. Every Mother’s
day, hundreds of “Walkers” amass at Ontario Place,
to commence on the short 5 km. walk to the Hospital for Sick
Children. Once there, a unique “Human Circle”
forms and completely encompasses the entire Hospital, giving
the Hospital, and the patients and family within, one big
“Hug” of support.
To date, the walks alone have raised close to $300,000
dollars for B.r.a.i.n.child, to research pediatric brain tumours.
The Association encourages its Membership to participate in
this worthwhile charity event.
The Rick Boustead Charity Golf Classic

Boustead Foundation for Childrens Charities

Club – Rick Boustead Falstaff Club

2004, marked the inaugural year
of sponsorship of this event by the Toronto Paramedic Association.
In May, 2004 at the AGM of the Association, Debbie
Boustead, wife of the late Rick Boustead, a past Supervisor,
Paramedic and tireless volunteer, and charity supporter with
Toronto EMS, presented to the Association an opportunity to
sponsor this very worthwhile charitable event.
In June 2004, Members of the Association laced
up their golf shoes and took to the links alongside many TEMS
staff, and other supporters, to enjoy a day of Golf, and raise
money for the Club named in Rick’s honour.
It’s anticipated that continued sponsorship
of this event will be carried on by the Association, so for
all our Membership, practice on the driving ranges and putting
greens and we’ll see you next year.

and PR Director Roberta Scott. Presenting a cheque for $1500.00
to Debbie, for the Rick Boustead Charity.
